- Posting cadence and update quality
This is the first follow-up post, making it a good moment to declare the posting cadence – I will post at least once per month, but I refuse to hype-post as interest should happen organically, and I like to focus on development of the game.
Externalization of progress — I do recognize the importance of maintaining the website as it’s both the landing page and central point of information about the game. Also, it helps me to externalize everything I’ve done so far, which allows me to iterate once more on any designs. Even at this stage it already helped improving some systems. I’ll find the balance between development and offloading the progress here.
Progress and output — Currently I am working at high output (roughly 80 hours/week) to make GoldClaim come true. I’ve done as much as I can to make this my base output, and working at this pace for a year I can state it’s sustainable. Perhaps the biggest trick is finding something which doesn’t feel like work — in fact, not being able to develop on the game is irritating.
Priorities, impediments — I’ve deliberately removed all roadblocks which could impede the MVP (minimal version). Also, there are no pushy publishers, there’s no need for crowdfunding campaigns or donations — everything I need for the MVP is already present. This website and the Steam community page are the only externalizations, and that helps having a clear signal on priorities.
Design first philosophy — I can’t emphasize enough that this game is going to be built on serious game design, top-of-the-line mature architecture. I spent 6 months full-time on design alone, meaning just technical documents, diagrams and mind-maps. Pure gameplay quality to put smiles on faces is one of the goals, together with showcasing my current ability for future endeavors in the gaming sector.
More importantly, it’s not to just releasy any game or try the gaming sector as a career — it’s because of the perfect alignment with my mind which likes to be creative, create sophisticated worlds, design its systems, develop the engine and solve all its complexities, just to see it running like a well-oiled machine. Nothing makes me more happy than just being able to do just that. I’ll be happy if the RoI will be just enough to just keep doing this, and I’m very comfortable in my tiny 20m² studio.
No fluff — I won’t be posting fluff. Every post will point to a page with a rather large milestone, or it has to be something of potential public interest like a new asset, all so that you — as the audience — can trust that every post actually entails notable progress.
Ask about more details — There’s a comment section below if anything about the game raises question marks. I can always create a new post or page if that question can be answered in full.
